Paul Pastore for
Guilderland Town Board
Guilderland is a unique community with a healthy, balanced mix of residential, commercial, agricultural and light industrial land uses.
I have worked hard to preserve this balance and to promote the quality of life for all Guilderland residents through sound fiscal and responsible planning and zoning principles.
I will support greater recreational opportunities for our residents. One initiative that I propose for our youth is the creation of a skateboard park or designated areas within our existing park system for that use. I strongly urge that the Town implement an anti-graffiti ordinance to help preserve our pristine parks and the natural beauty of our surroundings.
Throughout my first term in office, I have been committed to responsible, controlled growth. In evaluating business and development opportunities for the Town, I will continue to follow the recommendations and guidelines set forth in the Town's adopted Comprehensive Plan. A notable example of this was my comprehensive review and in-depth analysis during the recent Glassworks Village project proposal. I carefully reviewed this proposed "smart growth" development, weighing its benefits against potential adverse impacts upon our Town and the environment. Throughout the review process for this significant project, I was a vocal advocate for the protective, remedial and mitigative measures which were adopted by the Town Board.
I believe that, where possible, open space should be preserved and active and passive recreational alternatives should be created in the Town. I support conservation easements and no-cut and no-build zones to preserve our town's magnificent assets and environmental resources. I also support our Neighborhood Linkage and Master Plans to provide valuable opportunities for our neighbors to express their concerns.
Public safety will not be compromised while I am in office. Unlike Town Board members of the minority party, I do NOT support the reduction of our strict laws against drunk driving to try to reduce the cases in our Town Court.
In these troubling and challenging economic times, I wil continue to advocate for fiscal responsibility and a balanced budget. A fair, open and deliberative budget process is vital to preserve and advance fiscally prudent ideals and policies.
The town must maintain the very high level of municipal services which have been a hallmark of our administration and which have substantially improved the quality of life for Guilderland residents. We should not raise taxes and I pledge to maintain the high level of municipal services and the quality of life for our residents.
Enhancing our water and sewer infrastructure is a priority. I favor cooperating with other municipalities, including the City of Watervliet, to research and analyze the viability of a shared water treatment plant.
As a Member of the Town Board, I will work tirelessly with Supervisor Ken Runion and Councilwoman Patricia Slavick to apply for all available Federal Stimulus grants and funding. This vision was realized when we secured the necessary funding to construct new sidewalks and to study/resolve storm water issues affecting McKownville residents. I, Supervisor Runion and Councilwoman Slavick will pursue our efforts to secure funding to help other neighborhoods throughout our Town.
When re-elected, I will continue to champion the concerns of our town residents and will continue to be a voice of reason on the Guilderland Town Board.
Thank you for time, consideration, and your vote.
