Murray S. Carr is the only choice for the next Albany County Surrogate Judge. During his more than 30 years of experience helping clients deal with New York’s legal system, Murray has assisted countless clients develop their estate plans as well as their medical decision-making and end-of-life care documents. He regularly fights for family members, charities and others when those in charge of the estates of their loved ones and benefactors fail to act appropriately. Murray Carr understands the practical and legal realities of protecting the interests of those he serves. Graduating with a degree in accounting from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business (Class of 1976) and Albany Law School (Class of 1979) provided Murray with the background and skills necessary to navigate New York’s complex legal system. Murray is admitted to practice before all New York courts as well as the Federal District Court for the Northern District of New York.

Murray Carr has the legal experience needed to oversee the estates, trusts and other legal matters that will come before him as the Judge of the Albany County Surrogate’s Court. After law school, he joined the law firm of Taub, Koblenz & Starrs as an associate. He served as a partner in the law firm of Roland, Fogel, Koblenz & Carr. He now operates a solo legal practice with an office in Guilderland.
Murray Carr has the Public Service Experience.
Murray Carr has the extensive public service experience necessary to manage one of the busiest Surrogate’s Courts in New York. He has served as a special counsel to the Albany County Department of Aging, a member of the Albany County Human Rights Commission, a Small Claims Assessment Review Hearing Officer (deciding challenges by homeowners to property tax assessments), and the Albany County Guardianship Examiner (looking over the shoulder of court-appointed guardians of incapacitated persons). In 2001, he formed the Northeast Mediation service that assists separating couples address property-division and custody issues without the pain and anger so often associated with divorce litigation—A Divorce Without Bloodshed.
During his many years of service to the residents and legal system of Albany County, Murray has earned the friendship and respect of his clients, colleagues, opponents, and the judges before whom he has appeared.
