Kenneth Runion, Town Supervisor
Guilderland is a great place to live, work and raise a family.
We have been vigilant in maintaining a balanced budget. Guilderland's town tax is the lowest in Albany County.
Over the past 10 years, we have planned for the future of the Town. In 2001, a new Comprehensive plan was adopted through community input. This has been followed with individual neighborhood plans and studies for each of Guilderland's hamlets. We have uprgaded the towns water system and sewer system, and provided public water to our neighbors in the western end of town who desperately needed it.
The town park system has been expanded by over 400 acres with the addition of soccer and lacrosse fields at DiCaprio Park and the purchase of the Western Turnpike Golf Course. The golf course facility has been self-supporting through the fees it generates. Over 6 miles of hiking trails have been added at Tawasentha Park for our residents to enjoy. At our Nott Road Park we have added a dog park. This year, two of our neighborhood parks will see new children playground equipment.
Public safety has always been a top priority. Guilderland has the best emergency services in the Capital District provided by its police and paramedic programs. These programs keep our neighborhoods safe and protect the quality of life of our residents.
We strive to provide our residents with an open, fair and transparent government. Guilderland is the only community that broadcasts town board, planning board, and zoning board meetings live on cable television. We also have an interactive web site where town residents can obtain forms, budget information, property tax information and general information about the town from the convenience of their home computers. We even offer re-plays of the latest town board meeting online.
We are committed to moving forward and addressing neighborhood issues. Over the next several months we will be looking at storm water issues in McKownville and the Curry Road area of town. We will be looking at long term solutions to solid waste management. We will also be looking at intermunicipal agreements with neighboring towns and villages to make government more efficient and to save our taxpayers money.
Thank you for your support,
Kenneth D. Runion
